Arcata, Sea Ranch, Mt. Tamalpias & Watsonville, California

Headed out of Fortuna early and met up with friends Tom & Nicole and their puppy Dozer up north in Arcata, redwood country. After a fantastic 'green' breakfast by Nicole, we packed up and went to the stunning Lost Coast for camping. Found a beautiful spot on the beach. While hiking around there we found a sperm whale that had been beached there for about 3 weeks. Stinkay! We've been seeing lots of 'wild kingdom' stuff on this trip so far including a hawk that we saw pick up a field mouse and fly away with it right in front of the bike. After a fun night camping with those guys we rode south through the Redwood National Forest and.... Lisa hugged a tree! It's official, we are tree-huggers. Eat your heart out Bush! So wow, we're so small compared to these ancient and magnificent trees! That night we got in contact with family we haven't seen in too long, Lillian and Bruce and stayed with them at their beautiful home in The Sea Ranch. Had a lovely time and a great hike through the redwoods down to the river. Next morning we drove up to the spot in Sea Ranch where we got married - see the pic of the chapel - and then headed south for Mt. Tamalpias State Park. Found a real cool campsite on top of Mt. Tam with views of the Bay and the Pacific. Pitched tent, cooked dinner, and after breakfast headed south for Big Sur. Half Moon Bay grabbed us for some serious clam chowder (with sourdough bread of course). Then we traversed the mountain tops through the famous surf town of Santa Cruz. Bitchin Dude!!! Rain found us so we ducked out in Watsonville at the Best Value Inn. A lovely little hole with 99 channels of nothing to watch but there is a large heater so we are happy! It's supposed to clear up early tomorrow morning so we'll make our way to Big Sur for some camping and hiking before heading off for the Sequoia National Forest and the Giant Sequoias, some of the largest trees on earth! :)
